BFL 4th Annual Golf Outing Recap
Four years ago we were approached by 3 local New Jersey businesses who were determined to support a cause that gave back to veterans. It only took one meeting and we were off to the races planning an Annual Golf Outing in support of Backpacks For Life. Those three companies, DSM, Biltmore Tuxedos and Sal Lauretta for Men have been the backbone to this incredible event which just wrapped its 4th year.
This year’s event was the epitome of the perfect day. Aside from the fact that we were graced with AMAZING weather (anyone who came out last year golfed in 40 degrees and rain ALL DAY!), we had support from our local veterans, business owners and companies which made this event possible.
Our day started with brunch featuring a handful of local veteran owned businesses including Backward Flag Brewing Company - serving up delicious craft beer, The Mobile Cigar Lounge - lighting up fresh rolled cigars and Black 6 Coffee Trading Co. - pouring fresh brewed coffee from Guatemala and the Philippines.
Following an incredible day on the green, cocktail hour kicked off and featured a helicopter ball drop. What is a helicopter ball drop you might ask? At the beginning of the day, we have golfers sign their initials on golf balls which are then flown overhead and dropped over a hole on the course. The closest ball to the hole wins the 50/50!
We wrapped our day with an incredible silent auction featuring donations from local businesses including artwork from local photographer George Diebold, Sporting Event Tickets as well as a week-long vacation in Marco Island and a unique basket filled with books authored by military veterans AND signed by each of them specifically for this event! Last but certainly not least, our guest speaker, Retired Lieutenant Colonel Justin Constantine, delivered an incredible message encouraging our attendees to continue support local organizations that work to serve our veterans in new and better ways.
